WhatsApp: How To Transfer Your Chats From Your Old Phone To A New Phone

WhatsApp tends to roll out several new features and improvements in its updates. Till now, WhatsApp has released many new features and updates, including a chat lock feature, companion mode, multi-user mode, privacy checkup, silence unknown caller, message editing feature and more. In the same category, WhatsApp has introduced its new Chat Transfer feature, which allows users to transfer chats from their old device to a new one without backing up on Google Drive.

You guys must be familiar that whenever we purchase a new phone and make a WhatsApp account, we need to back up all the data of our WhatsApp account on Google Drive, unlike other chat applications like Telegram or Instagram. These applications do not store the data of our chats in a cloud or a server, and we need to start fresh in case we have uninstalled the application or installed it on a new device. We have to restore the backed-up data manually in the new device. 

For this, WhatsApp has announced a new chat transfer feature which allows users to directly transfer their full chat history from the old phone to the new phone, including their photos and videos as well, smoothly from the old phone to the new device without backing up to Google Drive. Chat history can easily be transferred, even if you have not backed up your chat’s data in Google Drive.

However, the chat feature works among the same operating systems; for instance, if you are using an Android device, you will only be able to transfer your chat history an Android only, and if you are using an iPhone, you will be able to transfer your chat history in an iPhone only. This feature will not work in a cross-OS.

How to transfer chat history from your old phone to your new phone?

To enable this feature check out the steps below:

For old phones,

• Open WhatsApp, and click on Settings from the three dots menu.
• Tap on Chats.
• Select the Transfer Chats option.
• Click on Start.
• You need to scan the QR code.         

For new devices,

• Download WhatsApp on your new device.
• Login with the Same phone number.
• Now using your old phone Scan the QR code shown on your new phone.
