Google Add New “Search” Option In Side Panel For Desktop Chrome
Google has been preparing to give users a new feature named “Google Search” in the side panel for desktop Chrome since last year, from March 2022. And now, the company finally decided to release its latest update with this new Google search option.
Google has already introduced a tremendously convenient side panel on desktop Chrome, which enables users to look at more information alongside the main content of a webpage. The Side Panel API also grants extensions to display their UI in the side panel.
Previously, in the Side Panel, the company offered three options: Reading list, Bookmarks, and Journeys, but with this latest update, a new additional option, “Google Search”, joins the list with Chrome 116.
Its default state displays a search field with a Lens shortcut, which allows the users to drag and drop or upload an image as well as “Select any page area.” After entering any query, the UI is like using Google Search on the phone, despite a shortcut letting users open the results page in a new tab.
The resulting information list will remain visible with each hit opening in the present tab, which shrinks down. Plus, the users are now also able to pin >> next to the close button >> this side panel so that they appear a “G” shortcut at the right side of the address bar, which will directly open the Search Field.
However, this new Google Search side panel has now come into view with Chrome 116. On Android 14, the update took a stable floor, which introduces a native system sheet. Hence this option will be more convenient to the users who used to do a lot of searching.
