Google Messages Announce Support For Emergency SOS Via Satellite

Google keeps giving amazing new updates continuously, plus it keeps doing new experiments every day at the user’s convenience. Recently the news has been spotted which indicates that the Google Messages application is testing to provide the facility of sending emergency SOS messages through satellite connectivity to the users. 

According to the post on X (Twitter) by @MishaalRahman, it is estimated that the Google Messages platform is preparing for an emergency SOS over a satellite connection. Additionally, Google has already declared that along with Android 14, it enables satellite support. 

On the other hand, it is also mentioned in the post that on various Android smartphones belonging to different brands, Google Messages is the default messaging application. So it must be eligible to support this convenient feature by which a specific separate messaging app won’t need to be built for smartphones that support satellite connectivity. 

However, this is appropriate and a beneficial Emergency SOS feature already supportable on iPhone. This has proved to be a helpful feature that has proved to be convenient for a minor problems to life-threatening trouble; for instance, in saving some lives in the current Maui wildfire. 

Google has revealed that it will introduce emergency SOS messages support with Android 14, which allows the user’s smartphones to connect with satellites. But it is not clear on which Android device this facility will be supportable yet. As per the post on X, it indicates that this covenant support on Android devices will be dependent on the modem hardware of the user’s device. 

It is also expected that Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series have the eligible hardware for satellite support. But they need an essential firmware build code update to enable satellite connectivity.
